Presented is a collector-grade example of Fleer’s penultimate football card issue in its four-year run in the early 1960s producing cards from the two professional football leagues, an array in a relatively wide condition range of broadly Poor to Near-Mint. After issuing cards from both the NFL and AFL the previous year, Fleer reduced the size of the set to 88 cards featuring only the fledgling American Football League. The offered set is in an overall condition range of 10 percent Near-Mint, 15 percent Ex-Mt, 15 percent Excellent, 26 percent Very Good, 10 percent Good and 14 percent Fair to Poor, with most of the cards deemed Poor having had a corner clipped. In an issue notorious for centering difficulties, this array conforms to the stereotype, with perhaps 20 percent of the group having the kind of centering that might typically prompt thoughts of an upgrade, though not all of those would be severe enough to dictate a formal off-center qualifier. The missing numbers (18): No. 9, 12, 16, 24, 30, 33, 38, 41, 46, 49, 57, 59, 61, 68, 72, 80, 87 and 88. The breakdown: No. 1 – VG-Ex, 3 – Excellent-Plus o/c, 4 Parilli – Near-Mint, 25 Haynes – Poor, 47 Cannon – Ex, 48 Hennigan Rookie – VG-Ex, 74 Williamson Rookie – VG-Ex, 79 Kemp – VG-Ex, 82 Mix – Ex-Mt o/c and 86 Ladd Rookie – VG.
