This is an enormous grouping of high-grade 1978 Topps Baseball, brought to you in a pair of beefy binders and an accompanying 800-card box, yielding more than 100 Hall of Famers and perhaps 175 Specials, almost everything in largely as-issued condition. That means typically Near-Mint to Near-Mint to Mint, with the emphasis to the upper end of the spectrum; the 800 or so loose cards are obviously from vending, sporting the coveted “vending bend” that bespeaks of uncirculated cardboard (and the occasional off-centers that traditionally accompany vending stashes. Here’s the breakdown: 1) Binder No. 1 (estimated 1,000) – including 22 Hall of Famers, 63 Specials and seven Rookies; 2) Binder No. 2 (estimated 950) – including 39 Hall of Famers, 48 Specials and 15 Rookies; and 3) 800-count box – including 41 Hall of Famers, 52 Specials and nine Rookies. All in all, a whole bunch of high-grade 1978 Topps sets could get well off this entry.
