Offered is an attractive pair of the iconic Atlanta Braves Bobbin Head Dolls from the 1963-66 Green Base Series and the 1967-72 Gold Base Series, along with a trio of Detroit Tigers Dolls from the Gold Base Series. Starting with the Braves, the Green Base figure is Ex-Mt figure that boasts exceptional color and gloss. The six-inch, round-base figure can lay claim to an attractive paint job, with virtually none of the dreaded chipping that is part and parcel of so many of these vintage treasures. There are only the tiniest of nicks on the “Braves” decal on the front of the shirt, visible only with the most careful examination; the “Atlanta” decal at the front of the green base is missing, with a vague imprint of “Atlanta” from a ballpoint pen remnant visible upon close inspection. The Gold Base figure is an Excellent specimen that similarly boasts exceptional colors and gloss. The six-inch, round-base figure features an outstanding paint job, with only a modest amount of the dreaded chipping, with virtually all of this to the gold base. There is some loss to the “Braves” decal across the front of the shirt. 1967-72 Trio of Detroit Tigers Bobbin Head Dolls (3) - Offered is an intriguing trio of the popular Detroit Tigers Bobbin Head Dolls from the 1967-72 Gold Base Series, figures that could be described as Near-Mint, Very Good and Good, with all three featuring outstanding, vibrant colors and excellent gloss. The seven-inch, round-base figures feature a nice paint job; while the Near-Mint example is essentially problem free, the Very Good and Good specimens exhibit a modest degree of the dreaded chipping that is part and parcel of so many of these vintage treasures, including to the notoriously condition-sensitive gold base. On the better of the two figures, there is a bit of paint chipping to the doll and more prominently to the Gold Base, along with some cracking to the back of the head that is only visible upon careful examination. On the second piece there is some more significant loss to the brim of the cap and somewhat larger chips to the neck, the back of the cap and head. The face of all three Bobbin Heads boasts a nice patina, while the body on the Good piece reveals a bit of dirt that hardly detracts from the presentation. There are miniscule nicks to the “D” decals on both the cap and front of the shirt on that figure. Even with the fairly typical flaws on two of the three, these are handsome artifacts from the difficult papier-mache genre of these Bobbin Head figures, and the Near-Mint example is nothing short of spectacular.
