This is a fascinating pile of heavyweight baseball books, which in turn renders this a literal heavyweight lot, one that will challenge the postman’s perseverance as well as attach a hefty shipping charge for the winning bidder. But that very same bidder winds up with a vast, important library of many of the most iconic and beloved baseball books dating back to the turn of the century. The books are pretty uniformly in outstanding condition, seemingly having been subjected to a single reading or minimal usage, with most of the books being hardcovers and many with attractive dust covers in the same pristine condition. Touching on many of the legendary moments in the game in the 19th and 20th centuries, along with involving dozens of Hall of Famers and the great stars over the same span, the roster includes biographies and autobiographies, massive research tomes, classic instructional and motivational volumes and comprehensive examinations of great teams, leagues, ballparks and more. It’s a rare opportunity to amass a world-class baseball library with the tap of a winning bid and a willingness to pony up some serious postage. The breakdown: Biographies and Autobiographies – The Mick, Mantle - All My Octobers, Joe DiMaggio 56, Ty Cobb, Ban Johnson, Walter Johnson, Musial, Roberts, Connie Mack, Cy Young, Kiner, Waddell, Landis, Mathewson, Ted Williams and Fay Vincent. The breakdown: Branch Rickey’s Little Blue Book, Eight Men Out, Bums, The Teammates, Sporting News’ Take Me Out to the Ballpark, Albert G. Spalding’s America’s National Game, Shoeless Joe and Ragtime Baseball, The Baseball Trade Registry, Everything Baseball, Baseball Dictionary, Baseball in the Movies, The Federal League (SABR), Voices of the Game, Dickson Baseball Dictionary, Encyclopedia of 19th Century Baseball, Rivalry – Yankees and Red Sox, Burying the Black Sox, Blackguards and Red Stockings, Dynasty, The Beer and Whiskey League, Harold Seymour’s Baseball – The Early Years and The Golden Age and The Yankees (Anderson, Chass, Creamer and Rosenthal). The final element in a lot that can fairly be described as eclectic is a handsome Talking Bobble Head Doll of famed Pirates TV and Radio Announcer Bob Prince, with the statue itself seeming pristine and the original box Fair.
