Here is a pair of figures from perhaps the most beloved player of the postwar era, Mickey Mantle, portrayed here is a striking 9-inch bronze figure and a 14-inch ceramic statue with actual cloth jersey and pants, along with the other accoutrements of his profession. We'll start with the elegant heavyweight bronze piece, with the 7 ¾-inch bronze of a left handed hitting Mantle affixed atop a 4-by-8 ½-inch green marble base (1 ½ inches high), with all elements essentially as-issued and problem free. An attractive 4-inch silver and black metal nameplate notes “Mickey Mantle – HOF 1974 - #5 of 20.” And the heavyweight reference above was both figurative and literal: it comes in at a hefty eight pounds, so the postman will be challenged. The second piece poses no such difficulties, with a quaint 14-inch 1990 Sports Impressions figural is also virtually without incident (save only for a missing top button), sitting on a 4 ½-inch square metal base with green felt; all elements are intact, including cap, belt and bat and his famed No. 7 on the back. The piece is limited to an edition of 1,956.
