June 15, 2023: Tobacco Cards Only Auction
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/15/2023
Presented is a key Joe Tinker card from one of the difficult early tobacco issues, the 1914 T213 Coupon Cigarettes Type 2 offering that mimics the images of T206 cards but is markedly rarer. The fact that the cards were produced and distributed almost exclusively in Louisiana only adds to their cachet. This is one of four variations of the Hall of Famer that were issued with that set, a Tinker, Chicago Fed. Bat on Shoulder example that is found in an SGC Authentic (Altered) holder, with extensive staining and an erratic cut at the bottom. The yellow and green pastel background colors showcase the image of the Hall of Famer; the “Tinker, Chicago Fed.” typeface in blue, one of the distinctive elements that differentiates it from its T206 counterparts, is jostled somewhat by the staining and the erratic cut at the bottom. The Coupon Cigarettes back is essentially covered by a cardboard backing that extends to roughly 85 percent of the surface area, with ½ of the remaining surface area paper loss.
