Presented is an outstanding example of one of the key non-Topps issues of the giddy days of the 1950s, the Red Heart Dog Food issue that boasted having cards of Mickey Mantle and Stan Musial when Topps was unable to secure the rights to the two legendary figures. The offered set is a blazing Near-Mint to Mint condition, with 30 of the 33 cards neatly ensconced in PSA 8 holders and the remaining trio – Mantle, Fox and Snider – similarly anointed at CSA 8, SGC 88 and PSA 7, respectively. A total of 11 Hall of Famers are included in the issue along with Mantle, Musial, Fox and Snider: Spahn, Lemon, Kiner, Ashburn, Minoso, Schoendienst and Slaughter. The 2 5/8-by-3 ¾-inch cards never looked better, with incredibly vivid and intense red, green and blue backgrounds, decent centering and outstanding gloss from the classic set that – mercifully – was offered as a mail-in promotion rather than somehow forced to mingle unceremoniously with a can of, uh, dogfood. This is simply an incredible opportunity to pick up a key peripheral issue from the 1950s in a startling, consistent presentation that is all but unimprovable.
