For serious collectors of proof cards, this is a rare opportunity to pick up literally dozens of examples from mostly baseball but touching all four major sports, plus a non-sport strip. The lineup includes a number of Hall of Famers and even more stars of all descriptions; the vast majority are blank backed, with exceptions constituting actual cards noted in the listing below. Most of the examples are Ex-Mt to Near-Mint; included in the mix is a pair of envelopes from Topps to famed dealer Larry Fritsch and postmarked in 1978. Cards indicated are Topps unless otherwise noted. Here’s the breakdown, with number of pieces preceding the total number of cards depicted: Baseball (39 pieces/46 cards) – 1) 1975 – 10/25, including Fisk (m/c), Phillies Team and Giants Team (m/c); 2) 1976 – Kaat; 1978 (5), including Fingers; 3) 1979 – 4/9, including Nettles, Hobson and McBride; 4) 1979 Japanese cards – 3 actual cards; 5) 1980 – 3/5, one is Fair; Football (11 pieces/47 cards) – 6) 1980 Kellogg’s, three sheets of 12 actual cards affixed to backing, including Griese, Rashad, Anderson, Pearson, Joiner, Brazile, Green, Guy, Ham, Branch and Blount; 7) five single cards, including two 1978 Simpsons No. 400 (one is an actual card), Riggins and White; Basketball (12 pieces/17 cards) – 8) including a 1976 Paultz, plus Davis, Scott and Abdul-Jabbar; Hockey (two pieces, five cards) – 9) including Leach; and Non Sport – 10) three-card strip of movie stars.
