This is the third in a series of elegant sterling-silver season pass pendants, a particularly intriguing design in the shape of a two-inch key, found here in outstanding Near-Mint condition. The unique design has a baseball at the center of the bow with 1921 engraved, with “The Giants Bid You Welcome to the Polo Grounds, Chas. A. Stoneham, Pres. 1920”; “Giants” in vertical all caps is incorporated into the key design on the blade’s obverse. The verso, in a condition matching the obverse, has the name “G.F. Gohen & One” along the verso of the blade and the serial number “87” at the peak of the bow and “Lambert Bros. N.Y. Sterling” at the bottom. The piece is an important artifact that is as rare as it is coveted, its importance amplified by the fact that the Giants earned their third World Series title in 1921, drubbing their co-tenants of the Polo Grounds in the Yankees, five games to three and marking the end of the brief experiment of best-of-nine World Series format. This also marked the penultimate year that the Giants and the Yankees both played home games at the Polo Grounds until a much-chagrined John McGraw put the kibosh to the arrangement in 1923 as Ruth & Co. were upstaging – and outdrawing – his own Giants.
