Here are all six pieces from the Aurora Models Great Moments Series in the mid-1960s, a unique program that featured colorful model kits honoring six of the greatest athletes from several generations. All six of the models are finished and nicely painted and assembled, but only the Willie Mays is without major incident; the other five have either broken or unglued elements, almost all of which could be repaired. Here’s the breakdown: 1) 1966 Willie Mays – 5-by-6 inches, 8 inches high (Mays figure is 7 inches), with some light scuffing to one sleeve and chipping to the “24” decal on the back. The piece boasts an attractive painting effort.; 2) 1965 Dempsey/Firpo Fight – 7 ½ inches square, with figures approximately 6 inches. Has an excellent paint job; both figures of Dempsey and the referee have been broken at the legs, which could be fairly easily repaired.; 3) 1965 Jim Brown – 8 ½-by-11-inch base, 6-inch figures and 10-inch goal posts. Brown figure has been broken at the left shoe, No. 27 defender has been separated from the base and No. 54 defender is intact; the model boasts an excellent painting effort and the problematic elements seemingly could be easily repaired.; 4) 1966 Johnny Unitas – 8 ½-by-11 inches, with 6-inch figures. All three (3) figures have been separated from the field and seemingly could be easily repaired. The model boasts a decent paint job and no chipping of the delicate decals; there is notable staining to the field and the Unitas faceguard is missing.; 5) 1965 Jerry West – 8-by-10-inch floor, basket is 11 ½ inches high, and the figures are 8 inches. The West figure has been broken off at the toe and seemingly could be easily re-glued. The piece has a really nice paint job and no chipping of the decals.; and 6) 1965 Babe Ruth – field is 7-by-9 inches and the crowd graphics (7-by-10 inches) are nothing short of superb. Ruth and the catcher have separated from the base (the umpire is intact) and seemingly could be easily re-glued, as could the catcher’ mask. The piece boasts an outstanding paint job.
