This is a handsome example of one of the most important Topps basketball issues in the company’s storied history, a mostly Ex-Mt to Near-Mint accumulation of cards of outstanding crispness and clarity against the elegant oversized white background. As the company’s first basketball issue in more than a decade, the vast majority of cards in the set are Rookies, headlined by the key card from the issue, the Lew Alcindor Rookie card. The 2 ½-by-4 11/16-inch cards are striking in this uniform and consistent set, fully 2/3 reaching Ex-Mt to Near-Mint status and remaining 1/3 mostly Excellent. Overall, it comes out to 31 percent Near-Mint, 27 percent Ex-Mt, 21 percent Excellent and 9 percent Very Good.
