Presented is a stunning artifact commemorating one of the truly legendary minor-league postseason traditions, the famed Dixie Series that for nearly four decades pitted championship teams from the rival Southern Association and the Texas League in a best-of-seven series after the conclusion of the regular season. In 1930, that meant the Fort Worth Cats against the Memphis Chicks, with Fort Worth emerging with the title, a claim it would make a total of eight times in the event’s history. The offered piece is really three separate photographs merged into a single framing: a 9-by-6 ½-inch images of the managers and umpires; a larger, dominant image of 30 ½-by-6 ½ inches of the two teams; and a third, smaller image of 2 ½-by-6 ½ inches of the umpire. All three elements are housed in an attractive period wood frame that brings the overall dimensions to 43 ½-by-7 ½ inches; the back portion – not visible – reveals the wear and tear of many decades and could be easily redone, and the glass protecting the images could be cleaned in a similar fashion.
