The white-letter variation of Topps final Mantle card is among the Mick’s toughest issues. The folks at Topps called the ’69 Mantle a tribute to the great slugger. But the marketers and merchants of the world saw through the smoke screen. Mantle’s release was little more than an effort to get retailers to stock Topps’ hard-to-sell high-number series and a thinly veiled tactic to create interest among fans who would want one last chance to own a card of “The Mick”. This White Letter version arrives in a SGC 5 holder with great color.
