This is an important Red Sox artifact from the 1950s utilityman Grady Hatton, a pair of game-worn road grey pants worn by the 12-year major league veteran in 1955. The medium weight gray flannel pants has three major loops and two minor ones, a one-button (grey) and zipper fly front, with double back pockets (no buttons). Pant leg openings are non-elasticized and are cut and hemmed above the regular opening ends. The inner back waistband has “No. 1 1955 36 27 ins” in red chain-link stitching. A McAuliffe, Boston, Mass. Label appears on the inner waistband. The veteran baseball man Hatton spent most of active career with Cincinnati and was an All-Star in 1952; he wore No. 1 for the Red Sox in 1954, 1955 and early 1956. Following his playing career, he managed the Astros from 1966-68 and coached for the Cubs and Astros in the 1960s and 1970s.
