This is one of the more intriguing and historically significant pieces we've run across in a while: a handsome uncut sheet from the iconic 1949 Bowman Baseball set, the campy 2 1/16-by-2 ½-inch classics that feature somewhat crudely “colorized” black-and-white photography with vivid spot-color backgrounds and soft, pastel flesh tones. All of that makes for a spectacular collectible, in this case an 18 ¾-by-10-inch sheet with 36 cards featured, and a truly unique card back with a double-printed information, with the overprinted from a different sheet, not a repetition of the correct back. The sheet displays attractively, jostled by significant corner wear to the upper corner where it had been affixed to a wall. The first series sheet includes cards of Hall of Famers Stan Musial, Bob Feller, Warren Spahn, Lou Boudreau, Ralph Kiner and the George Kell Rookie card.
