While hobbyists like to kibitz about why Leaf would produce a baseball card of a player who had retired a dozen years earlier, we all know the reason intuitively. Even as he battled throat cancer in the closing years of his fairy tale life, Babe Ruth was still the most important figure in the game. By the time some youngsters might have opened a pack of Leaf Baseball cards and pulled out a Mint example of Ruth’s final card, The Bambino might have already passed on to heavenly perch more apropos for a man of his stature. The remarkable Ruth portrait of the Hall of Famer is vividly showcased by the flaming red/orange background color, only adding to the lustre of a public figure of unfathomable dimensions. This single is No. 3 in the set and arrives in a PSA 2.5 holder, with solid centering and color, but four uniformly rounded corners.
