Most would agree that Mickey Mantle’s Topps rookie, as well as the T206 Wagner, defines the cornerstone of card collecting, and is one of the ultimate additions to major card collections in the world. Unfortunately, a considerable number of advanced collectors simply cannot afford the stratospheric price tag of a high grade 1952 Topps Mantle rookie card that is currently achieving staggering price tags. While not the hallowed rookie card, the Mick’s second-year 1953 Topps card has gained considerable prestige over the years via its incredible, stoic lithographic Mantle portrait image as well as being the 1952 rookie card successor. While the 1953 Topps Mantle is also significantly valuable, it pales in comparison to the rookie card, lending itself to be an affordable, highly desirable early Mantle artifact. Up for auction is a 1953 Topps graded a PSA 4, with centering issues both directions, amazing color and EX/MT corners.
