For fans of the iconic 1966 Topps Baseball issue, this may be your item, a spectacular compilation of the transparencies of the photos used that year in that elegant set, yet another artifact apparently gleaned from the Topps archives. Seems to qualify as a one-of-a-kind collectible. If you thought the photography for the 1966 set was outstanding – and the quality of Topps photography was widely regarded as improved in 1966 and 1967 – you should see the transparencies that were employed to make them! These are typically 2 ¼-by-3 inches, with a few smaller, and seemingly without issue or concerns in terms of condition. There are six Hall of Famers – Wilie Mays, Bob Gibson, Eddie Mathews, Joe Torre, Tony Oliva and Bill Mazeroski – along with literally dozens of stars and All-Stars, along with so many of the most popular players of the era. That last notation might be suitably applied to the likes of Rocco Colavito, with two different transparences, or auteur-in-waiting Jim Bouton, Elston Howard, Tim McCarver, Vada Pinson, Tom Tresh and Roy White, to name a few. The transparencies of Mays and Oliva are from League Leaders subset cards, as is one of the transparencies from Colavito; in addition to the 85 individual players there are four images used for the Team card subset: Angels, Braves, Dodgers and Pirates. Here’s the complete listing (85): Allen, Jesus Alou, Amaro, Aspromonte, Bailey, Black, Blasingame, Bouton, Bauer, Brown, Briles, Burgess, Cardwell, Charton, Colavito (2), Gladding, Hansen, Harris, Held, Herbel, Horton, Elston Howard, Johnson, King, Koonce, Kosco, Kranepool, Landis, Lanier, Lock, Lumpe, Malzone, Mathews, Mays, Mazeroski, McCarver, McMillan, Mikkelsen, Miller, Mincher, Mota, Newman, Oliva, Ortega, Parker, Pascual, Pavletich, Pinson, Qualls, Ribant, Rojas, Romano, Mike Ryan, Santiago, Siebert, Spangler, Stanek, Stange, Stottlemyre, Talbot, George Thomas, Lee Thomas, Tolan, Torborg, Torre, Tresh, Uehlander, Valle, Versalles, Warwick, Wert, Westrum, Roy White and Zanni.
