October 24, 2024: Fall Auction
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/24/2024
Presented is a simply unprecedented opportunity to pick up a virtually as-issued complete set of the charming 1971 Milk Duds Baseball card set in flattened and seemingly untouched boxes, assuring a condition level that is hard to imagine. Individual boxes of the Tier One Hall of Famers – Aaron, Clemente, Mays, Seaver, Killebrew (two different), Rose (two different), Munson, Frank Robinson, Brooks Robinson (two different) and Banks – can sell for hundreds of dollars in top condition, so it’s a little startling to think about what happens when the whole set of the 6-by-9-inch flattened boxes is offered in a single lot. The Milk Duds “cards” are the standard 2 ½-by-3 ½-inch size, with players’ images in a brown sepia-tone to match the color-scheme on the cream-colored cardboard. A total of 20 Hall of Famers are included in the set, headlined by the fellows listed above, and most of the remaining roster is sprinkled with stars, minor stars and All-Stars, marking it as one of the more prominent candy issues of the period. As noted above, the incredible flattened-box set is virtually without issue, save only for a Randy Hundley example that would be regarded as Very Good. Call it the stutter that accents the eloquence.
