October 24, 2024: Fall Auction
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/24/2024
Offered is an attractive and consistent example of the important 1974 Topps Baseball issue, found here in a solid Excellent to Ex-Mt condition in nine-pocket plastic sheets, with a few below and a significant number above to Near-Mint; the emphasis probably to Ex-Mt-Plus. The headliner, the No. 456 Dave Winfield Rookie, is found here in a PSA 5 holder. This was the first year that Topps produced the cards all at one time rather than by series through the course of the spring and summer, and the Topps creative team added a 24-card Team Checklist Insert and 44-card Traded set, both of which are included with this lot. In addition, there are about 375 duplicates included in the mix, often touching some of the Tier One Hall of Famers and major stars. The breakdown: No. 1 Aaron – Very Good, Nos. 2-6 Aaron Specials are broadly VG-Ex, 10 Bench – Near-Mint, 20 Ryan – Ex-Mt-Plus, 30 Carew – VG-Ex, 40 Palmer – VG-Ex, 80 Seaver – Ex-Mt-Plus, 95 Carlton – Ex-Mt-Plus, 105 Fisk – Ex-Mt, 130 Jackson – Good-Plus, 215 Kaline – VG-Ex, 250 McCovey (both versions) Washington – Good and San Diego – Ex, 252 Parker Rookie – Ex-Mt-Plus, 260 Yastrzemski – VG, 283 Schmidt – Ex, 300 Rose (2) – Ex-Mt-Plus, 340 Munson – Ex-Mt-Plus, 350 Gibson – Ex, 473 World Series Mays (5) and 598 Griffey Rookie – VG-Ex.
