October 24, 2024: Fall Auction
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/24/2024
Presented is a truly high-end example of the popular 1966 Philly Gum Football issue, a striking mostly Near-Mint or better blazer, headlined by almost five dozen PSA 8 slabs and a handful of PSA 8.5s, plus an SGC 6 Jim Brown and an SGC 7 Dick Butkus Rookie. The raw cards (128) conform neatly to the wider condition range of their slabbed counterparts, primarily Near-Mint or better, with a few below and some reaching Near-Mint to Mint, a group that includes 21 Hall of Famers listed below. The pristine cards boast vivid colors and gloss on the front and uncommonly clean and attractive card backs, most notably with the vivid spot-color green. This was the third of four years of Philadelphia Gum producing NFL cards after Topps lost that contract in 1964. Here’s the breakdown: PSA 8.5 (4) – Nos. 27, 65, 67 Brown and 106; PSA 8 Hall of Famers (7) – Lilly, Taylor, Wood, McDonald, Flatley, Brown and Ringo; PSA 7 (8) – No. 32 Ditka, 58 Hayes Rookie (BVG 7), 61 Meredith, 102 Olsen, 112, 145, 187 Mitchell and 197 Checklist; Raw Hall of Famers (21) – Berry, Mackey (Ex-Mt), Moore (Ex-Mt-Plus), Unitas, Atkins, Renfro, Karras (Ex-Mt, Diamond Cut), Adderley, Davis, Gregg, Nitschke, Stan Jones, Tarkenton, Tingelhoff, Wilson, Jurgensen, Krause and Taylor, plus nine (9) Team cards and eight (8) Action cards.
