October 24, 2024: Fall Auction
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/24/2024
As noted in the title, this is an auction lot reminiscent of the old days, a potpourri, if you will, of generally collector-grade or lower-grade Hall of Famers and stars, often touching some of the most important cards of the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s. That last pronouncement includes cards from the likes of Mickey Mantle (1966 Topps), Ted Williams (1959 Fleer), Whitey Ford (1953 Topps), Bob Feller (1954 Bowman), Eddie Mathews (1954 Topps), 1956 Topps cards of Ernie Banks and Roy Campanella, and 1959 Topps cards of Koufax, Musial, Banks, Ford and Kaline, to name a few. All this adds up to a great opportunity to pick up iconic cards that can get prohibitive in high grades. In the listing that follows, the cards mentioned are the regular-issue version unless otherwise noted. The breakdown: 1) 1930s and 1940s (31), mostly Fair, including 1933 Goudey (13), 1934 Diamond Stars (13), with Harris, Manush and Crosetti, and three Play Balls; 2) 1952-55 Red Man Tobacco with Tabs (3) – VG-Ex with Hearn, Staley and Sanni; 3) 1953 Topps Ford – Good; 4) 1954 Topps Rizzuto – Very Good; 5) 1954 Bowman Feller – Good; 6) 1954 Topps Mathews – Poor; 7) 1956 Topps (2) – Banks – Good and Campanella – Fair; 8) 1957 Topps (2) Campanella – Poor and Fox – Fairl; 9) 1958 Topps (3) – Reese – Fair, Banks – Good and Fence Busters – VG; 10) 1959 Topps (5) – Fair to Good, with Koufax, Musial, Banks, Ford and Kaline; 11) 1959 Fleer Life of Ted Williams (13) – Good to Very Good; 12) 1960 Topps (4) – Good to Very Good, with Clemente, Fox and Banks and McCovey All-Stars; 13) 1961-75 Topps (unless otherwise indicated) – (41) broadly Good to Very Good, including 1961 Maris MVP and Gehrig Thrill, 1962 Musial, Aaron and Frank Robinson All-Star, 1963 Koufax, 1963 Golden Press DiMaggio – Ex-Mt, 1964 Frank Robinson and Aaron (Fair), 1965 Topps Embossed Koufax, 1966 Topps (3) including Mantle, Banks and Palmer, 1967 Topps Aaron, Clemente and Maris, 1968 Topps (4) including Aaron, Seaver, Yastrzemski and Clemente All-Star, 1969 Topps (4) including Williams, Seaver, Flood and McCovey All-Star, 1970 (2) including Aaron (m/c) and Aaron All-Star, 1971 (4) including Aaron, Banks, Yastrzemski and Hodges, 1972 (3) including Aaron, Ted Williams and Clemente In Action, 1973 Topps Aaron Home Run Leaders No. 1, 1974 Topps (2) including McCovey and Frank Robinson, 1975 Topps Mini of Ryan, and 1976 Topps Aaron; 14) Assorted 1961-63 Post Cereal, most Fair to Good with a few Very Good, with decent cutting effort, including a dozen Hall of Famers – including Mays, McCovey, Ford, Cepeda (2), Schoendienst, Ashburn, Killebrew and Drysdale.
