Presented is a nice grouping of the three Post Cereal Baseball issues, with the bulk from 1961 and 1962, with some Jello examples included. While many of the cards are saddled with less-than-ideal cutting efforts, it’s a fairly common scenario for a unique food issue for that demanded significant scissoring skills from the youth of America, yielding standard-size 2 ½-by-3 ½-inch cards. Even with condition concerns, the group features almost four dozen Hall of Famers, including almost all of the greatest stars of the era. As noted above, there are more than a dozen Jello examples included in the mix, along with a similar number of Post football cards, just to make sure everybody was paying attention. The latter group includes the likes of Sam Huff, Chuck Bednarik, Alex Karras, Raymond Berry, Ollie Matson and Fran Tarkenton, so the HOF pedigree remains consistent. Breakdown of keys (The cards indicated as “erratic cut” (ec) reveal scissoring marginally less proficient than the rest): 1961 Post (58), broadly Good to Very Good, with some above and below and perhaps 1/3 or so of the group with an erratic cut - No. 1 Berra – Good, Mantle (ec), Aparicio – Poor, Kaline – Fair, Wilhelm, Herzog, Aaron (2) – Good, Snider (ec) and Santo – Fair; 1962 Post (105), about ¼ Excellent to Ex-Mt, roughly 40 percent Good to Very Good and the balance below – No. 5 Mantle (ec), Maris – Good, Kaline – Very Good, Brooks Robinson – Excellent-Plus, Aparicio – Poor, Minoso (ec), Wynn (ec), Killebrew – Ex-Mt, Koufax – Poor, Frank Robinson – Poor, Cepeda, Mays – Poor, Mathews – Ex-Plus, Aaron – VG, Clemente – Good and Santo – VG-Ex; 1962 Jello (13), Good to Very Good, with some below – Fox – Poor, Aparicio – Fair, Killebrew (ec), Mathews – Fair, Aaron (ec) and Mazeroski – Fair; 1963 Post (20), mostly Good to Very Good, with some below, including Wynn and Drysdale (Poor); 1963 Jello (4) – mostly Good, including Kaline; and 1962 Post Football (14), mostly Good to Very Good, with some below, including Roosevelt Brown, Huff, Bednarik (mk), Karras, Berry, Matson and Tarkenton.
