Presented is a vending box of pristine 1973 Topps Baseball Third Series, wonderful cards with superb color and gloss and nudged only by the kind of centering woes that are typically encountered with vending. The box has been searched, but left behind are nearly four dozen Hall of Famers and many more dozens of stars, minor stars and Specials. The Hall of Fame lineup includes the likes of Mays, Seaver, Bench, Stargell, Brock, Carlton, Carew, Kaline and many more, often with duplication involved. As noted above, the array is saddled with the kind of centering often association with vending, in this case with perhaps 40 percent of the box with the kind of centering that might typically prompt thoughts of an upgrade, including some miscuts, although not all of those would be severe enough to dictate a formal off-center designation. Adding to the cachet of the artifact is the realization that 1973 Topps Baseball represents the final year that Topps issued cards by series over the course of the spring and summer. With 1974 would come the printing of the entire set at one time, dramatically altering the course of collecting at the time and for later vintage enthusiasts. A breakdown of some of the keys (cards mentioned are the player’s regular-issue version unless otherwise indicated): Mays (2), Bench (2), Carew, Calton, Kaline, Dick Allen (3), Stargell, Perez (3), McCovey (3), Perry (3), Brock, Anderson (5) and Tanner (4), plus Lolich (4), Powell (4), Downing (4), Buckner (3), Tiant (3), Baylor (3), Evans (3), Rudi (3), Marshall (3), Cedeno (2), Campaneris (2), three (3) Series Three Checklists and 15 Team cards, including the Mets (5), Royals (5), Padres (3) and Orioles (2).
