Born in the brief interregnum when Topps stepped away from producing basketball cards and Fleer stepped into the breach in 1986, the unique Star Co. cards were a charming, colorful alternative boasting an unconventional team-set distribution format. The standard-size cards featured color-coded team depictions and captivated collectors even without the more traditional means of distribution in packs. Offered here is an imposing group of more than 300 examples from the company’s final two “official” years producing the bagged team sets. The offered cards are essentially Near-Mint or better, with some Ex-Mt, but overall, this is an outstanding array with excellent color and gloss and a very uniform presentation. In the listing that follows, some of the cards shown are from specialty subsets, but the vast majority are the regular-issue versions.
