Presented is an extraordinary array of high-grade specimens from one of Topps’ most condition-sensitive issues, the wood-grained border 1962 Baseball set, certainly a difficult 1960s offering to put together in the highest grades. Behold this assortment of Near-Mint to Near-Mint to Mint treasures, a grouping with a good deal of duplication and a presentation featuring bold, uncommonly vivid colors, superb gloss and eerily pristine card backs. With 33 duplicates in the mix, the resulting total is 85 different cards for the lot. The majority of the group is from Series Three (66), with about a dozen from Series One and the balance from Nos. 265-444; a bit more than a dozen cards have the kind of centering that might typically prompt thoughts of an upgrade, though not all of those would be severe enough to dictate a formal off-center designation. Hall of Famers Richie Ashburn (2) and Early Wynn headline an array that also includes: Adcock, Altman (2), Bell (2), Burdette, Davenport, Donovan, Downing (2), Face, Freese, Fregosi (2), Groat, Held, Hoak, Kline, Long (4), Malzone (3), Martin (2), Pascual (2), Pierce, Pinson, Siebern, Sievers and Terry, plus four Checklists (Series Four is Good), four World Series Subset cards (two different), two Combination cards and Tigers and Senators Team cards. Any way you count them, this lot would provide a great start on a superior-grade 1962 set or easily qualify as upgrades to almost any existing set.
