This lot represents an opportunity to pick up a truly extraordinary run of Topps sets from the late 1970’s to 1983, a nice consistent array of important Topps issues in a highly collectible grade. The cards show good colors and photo focus and registration, nice gloss and a clean, problem-free presentation front and back. Like most such runs, the sets tend to improve slightly with each advancing year; in most instances the condition of the Hall of Famers and stars tends to conform to the overall grade range, with some of the exceptions noted below. The breakdown: 1977 Topps Baseball (660) – Essentially Excellent to Near-Mint, with some below and these keys -10 Jackson – VG, 70 Bench – Ex, 100 Morgan – Good, 170 Munson – VG, 450 Rose – Nr-Mt, 473 Dawson – VG, 480 Yastrzemski – Ex, 580 Brett – Good, and 650 Ryan – Ex; 1978 Topps Baseball (726) – Basically an Ex-Mt to Nr-Mt offering, with 36 Murray – Ex, 400 Ryan – Ex-Mt, and 707 Molitor – Ex-Mt; 1979 Topps Baseball (726) – An Ex-Mt to Nr-Mt set, with the emphasis to the upper end of the scale – key No. 116 Ozzie Smith rookie PSA 8; 1980 Topps Baseball (726) – A nice consistent Nr-Mt set, with a few below; 1981 Topps Baseball (792) – A nice consistent Nr-Mt set, with a few below; 1982 Topps Baseball (792) – a uniform and consistent Nr-Mt set, with a number of cards above; 1983 Topps Baseball (792) – a blazing Near-Mint to Mint offering, with bright colors and gloss, and evidence of the “vending bend.”
