From the collection of a Milwaukee Braves diehard from the club’s bittersweet reign in the Midwest from 1953-65 comes this handsome group of 1947-66 Exhibit Co. Postcards (10), the acclaimed black-and-white (31) McCarthy Postcards (3 ½-by-5 ½ inches) and another array of miscellaneous postcards from the period. In addition, there is a wonderful array of the colorful Red Man Tobacco cards from the 1950’s and Topps inserts from the 1960’s featuring Milwaukee players.
The Red Man cards from 1953-55 is a super grouping of the popular cards (without tabs), often difficult to find in top grades because there were issued with tobacco products. Offered cards here are spectacular, basically Ex-Mt to Nr-Mt, and include the following Braves stars: 1953 – Spahn and Pafko; 1954 – Crandall, Pafko, Spahn (Ex), Mathews and Burdette; 1955 – Crandall, Logan and Spahn.
The 3 3/8-by-5 3/8-inch Exhibit Co. Postcards are basically Ex-Mt to Nr-Mt and include the following: Aaron (Ex-Mt), Adcock, Bruton, Burdette, Crandall, Logan, Mathews, Pafko, Sawatski and Spahn.
Breakdown of the McCarthy Postcards, which are largely Ex-Mt to Nr-Mt: Burdette, (2) Carty, one is signed, Cloninger, Dillard, Funk, Gabrielson, Hanebrink, Hazle, Ken Johnson, Mack Jones, Nippy Jones, Logan (signed), LeMaster, Mantilla, Mathews (Nr-Mt), Maye, McMahon, Menke, Pafko, Phillips, Pizarro (signed), Rice, Roselli, Sawatski (signed), Schoendienst, Frank Torre, Joe Torre (signed), Trowbridge and Wise.
The miscellaneous postcards (26) are mostly black and white, most are 3 ½-by-5 inches, largely Ex-Mt and most often signed, with exceptions noted: Blasingame; Bolling; Cline; Crone; DeMerit; Fischer (color); Gabrielson; Grimm; Haney (unsigned); Lou Johnson; Mathews (2), one Ex-Mt and one VG; Maye; McMillan; Murff (unsigned); O’Connell, Piche; Raymond; Spangler; Frank Thomas; Torre; and Wyatt.
The lineup of the Topps inserts: 1961 Topps Stamps (12) – Nr-Mt, including Aaron, Adcock, Bruton, Buh, Crandall, Jay, Mantilla, Covington, Mathews, McMillan, Spahn and Willey; 1962 Topps Stamps (10) – Nr-Mt, including Aaron, Adcock, Burdette, Bolling, Braves, Crandall, McMillan, Mathews, Torre and Spahn; 1962 Topps Baseball Bucks (4) – Nr-Mt, including Aaron, Burdette, Mathews and Spahn; 1963 Topps Peel-Offs (2) – Aaron and Spahn; and a 1959 Topps Bazooka Crandall that seemingly presents Nr-Mt but has been trimmed. All of the included inserts have been carefully affixed to album pages with a tiny piece of cellophane tape which likely can be easily removed without incident.
