This 41x80 three-sheet poster for the original 1948 Allied Artists film which starred William Bendix, Claire Trevor and Charles Bickford. Nice graphics include Bendix as Ruth in Yankee's uniform waving hat to crowd, talking to youngsters with baseball, with wife and showgirls at the bottom left. Film was released the same year Ruth died and was an extremely sympathetic portrait following the legendary "Babe" from his troubled childhood to his last heroic day. The film recreated the most memorable highlights of his life intermingled with actual clips of Ruth himself in action, adding a documentary feel to the picture. Poster was issued in two pieces, with bottom third being slightly off-center as printer, but graphics and text line up. Poster has horizontal and vertical folds as issued with wear at fold intersections. Margin edges have scattered dust soiling and handling wear. Scattered color touch-ups to creases. There is a 1.5x2-inch area of surface paper lift the top right, in "America's Most Beloved Guy!" text. Tape strips along edges of linen poster in mounted on but main image area will mat and frame to Fine appearance. Bright color, great design and great history.
