For collectors of the popular mid-1960’s Philadelphia Gum NFL Football issue, this lot is a super chance to pick up a handsome complete set from 1965 with some duplicates plus 29 blazing cards from the 1966 issue. The 198-card 1965 set has a nice, consistent Ex-Mt to Nr-Mt presentation, with the emphasis to the Ex-Mt end of the range (ruboffs untouched on the card backs). The breakdown of the keys: 1 Colts Ex, 2 Berry Nr-Mt, 12 Unitas Nr-Mt, 19 Ditka Ex-Mt, 31 Brown Nr-Mt, 41 Warfield Ex, 47 Lily Nr-Mt, 49 MacDonald Good, 76 Hornung Nr-Mt, 81 Starr Nr-Mt, 82 Taylor Nr-Mt, 88 Grier Nr-Mt to Mt, 107 Marshall Ex-Mt, 100 Tarkenton Nr-Mt, 187 Huff Nr-Mt, and 188 Jurgensen Ex-Mt. The extras are generally in comparable condition, though a couple of the ruboffs on the back have been touched, and there a couple of other minor condition issues: 22, 51, 62, 68, 81, 90, 106, 124, 125, 131, 136, 167 and 181. The 29 cards from 1966 Philadelphia Gum are in even more impressive condition, essentially Near-Mint, a super clean grouping that could be used to upgrade almost any high-end collection.
