The 1970 Topps Basketball issue was a groundbreaking effort 43 years ago, an oversized classic that nearly doubled the card count and continued the unique size of 2 ½-by-4 11/16 inches from 1969, a stunning change in configuration that marked the company’s return to the basketball arena after a decade-plus absence. The oversized cards proved to be a marvelous showcase for the sport, providing an elongated design that nicely presented the great stars of the era. This set – which includes a handful of duplicates, including Pete Maravich and other HOFers) – is in a highly collectible condition, mostly Excellent to Nr-Mt, with but a handful falling below that range. About 75 percent of the issue falls within the Excellent to Near-Mint range.
