Perhaps the neatest non-Topps issue of the decade, Fleer’s truncated effort to produce a mainstream baseball card issue in the 1960’s yielded the 66-card Fleer issue, thought to be the first in several series that the company would issue that year before shut down by Topps’ lawyers. It also featured the only mainstream card of the National League’s 1962 MVP winner, Maury Wills (included in this lot), who would not appear in a Topps issue for four more years. This is a great, super-condition offering representing two thirds of that set, 44 cards mostly in unimprovable condition, largely Near-Mint. Thirty-five of the 44 cards fall in Near-Mint condition as follows: 1, 2, 4 Books Robinson, 7, 9, 11, 12 o/c, 14, 16 o/c, 20, 22 o/c, 23, 27, 28, 30, 31, 33, 35 o/c, 36, 37 o/c, 38 o/c, 39, 43 Wills o/c, 44 o/c, 47, 49, 51 o/c, 52 m/c, 53 o/c, 54 o/c, 55, 57, 62, 65 and 66; Ex-Mt (5) – 15, 24 o/c, 25, 29 and 48; Excellent – 18; Very Good (3) – 3, 50 and 64 Cepeda.
