One of the legendary players in the revered Old Judge Series, Dummy Hoy is a key figure in 19th century baseball history, and this N172 Old Judge card is one of the treasures in this mammoth issue and one of the most widely pursued cards in the set. A 5-ft.-4-inch deaf mute, Hoy overcame numerous obstacles in forging a sterling 14-year career, and is credited with being the force behind the advent of hand signals being used by umpires. Hoy was a .288 lifetime hitter and stole nearly 600 bases in his career. He scored more than 100 runs eight times and held the major league record for games in centerfield for more than 20 years after his retirement. He was the last surviving player to appear in the remarkable Old Judge series. This card is in a handsome PSA 3 condition, marking it as a particularly attractive specimen in the coveted 19th century issue. The image of Hoy leaning on his bat is exceptionally crisp and clear, a super example of a key card in the series.
